True to its name - you find yourself in a sanctuary, with very kind, welcoming and dedicated hosts. The place is historical and creative, a thoughtful retrofit of a century-farmhouse and new build. Built up on creative inspiration, sweet mementos to the County and the lives lived in this area and this house throughout...

My husband and I stayed at AWAY for our 1 year wedding anniversary and had a lovely time. Susan and Glen are fantastic hosts - funny, inviting and informative. Their home is beautifully decorated and the grounds around the home are equally stunning. We enjoyed walking down to the lake on several occasions as well as a lakeside campfire one evening. Breakfasts are delicious and beds are very comfortable. What more could you ask for! We will definitely be staying here in future years.

We recently spent a lovely and very relaxing long weekend at Away in the County. Susan and Glen are terrific hosts, very knowledgeable about the area, and their beautiful, art-filled home is the perfect antidote to city stress. From the lovely guest room to the wonderful breakfast it was a great and memorable experience.

My husband and I stayed for three nights in mid-August at Away in the County, a peaceful, idyllic retreat on the shore of East Lake. What a wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, greeted by fluffy chickens wandering around the lawn, to our departure complete with fresh-baked muffins for the road, we loved every moment. Susan and Glen, our hosts, have built an art-filled airy space. We stayed in the Gardener’s room, the largest of three. It had a comfortable king-sized bed and large windows with a view of the lawns and East Lake, part of Lake Ontario. Susan’s art, beautiful and striking encaustic paintings, fills the walls. Just outside the room is a small balcony for all guests, and a fridge filled with large glass bottles of water for guests’ use. We also used the fridge to store PEC wine and cheese, which we took down to the sweet shady sitting area by the lake. Breakfasts were served at a communal table, and featured Glen’s gourmet delights and lively conversation with interesting guests. All in all, we loved it. I’m already planning our next escape.
